Alex was born on January 31, 1936, in New Braunfels, Texas, to Elizabeth and Willie Hansmann, and came from a long line of German immigrants, a legacy that gave him a strength and sense of duty that shaped the incredible man he became. Alex was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Laura Middleton, Melba Weil, and Darlene Rothe, and his brother Nolan (Tommy) Hansmann. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Pape.
In 1962, he married the love of his life, Veronica Aline Davis. They built a life together rooted in devotion and resilience and raised their two children, Sandra (husband, Shawn Saladin) and David (wife, Anna). He was especially proud of his grandchildren—Chase, Taylore, Cortni, and Sterling—and his great-grandson, Finn.
Alex attended New Braunfels High School, class of 1955, and later St. Philip’s College in San Antonio. He believed deeply in the value of education, hard work, and service to others. He served his country with pride in the United States Army and the Texas National Guard and carried that same spirit of service into every part of his life. He went on to work for 40 years at the San Antonio Army Aviation Support Facility. Following his military service, he continued to serve with the U.S. Border Patrol for seven years, flying helicopter missions along the U.S. border. He also worked for Summers Electric, where he enjoyed the freedom of the open roads throughout the Texas Hill Country.
A man of faith, Alex attended Concordia Lutheran Church and, for many years, Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. At Mount Calvary, he served as an usher and elder and was a devoted member of the choir. Alex was known for his incredible work ethic and his willingness to help anyone who needed it. He was a steady presence for his family, his friends, and his community.
Alex was also fun-loving, warm, and full of life. He enjoyed being with people, sharing stories, and finding humor in everyday moments. He had a way of making others feel welcome and cared for, and his generosity touched many lives. He will be remembered as a man who gave more than he took, who stood firm when others needed him, and who loved his family deeply.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday April 20, 2026, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Mount Calvary Dr., San Antonio, TX 78209 with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM.
Memorials may be given to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Mount Calvary Dr., San Antonio, TX 78209, and the family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Mount Calvary congregation.
