

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Maria Dolores Ortega Peña; his parents, Rodolfo Peña and Amanda Gaitan Peña; siblings, Rodolfo Peña Jr. and Rachel Peña Harper.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. Jose Carlos Peña PhD; his four children: Son, Alexander E. Peña Jr.; daughter, Laura P. Guillen (Antonio); son, Carlos S. Peña (Thelma); son, Anthony J. Peña (Pamela); grandchildren: Christopher S. Peña, Alexander E. Peña III, Nicolas A. Guillen, Lauren A. Guillen, Marlo Celeste Peña, Carlos Rene Peña, Amanda Christine Torres (Roland), David Anthony Peña; and great-granddaughters Aleyah Marie Peña and Mileana Peña.
He was born on June 4, 1934, in Mexico City, Mexico. He immigrated at an early age to America with his family to San Antonio, Texas. He enlisted into the United States Army National Guard in 1954, served four years, and was honorably discharged as a Specialist Fifth Class. It was during this period in his life that he met the love of his life, Maria Dolores Ortega, and were married on November 1, 1958. He then joined the Air Force Reserve and on 13 May 1968, he was ordered to active duty in support of the Viet Nam War during the Pueblo Crisis. Master Sergeant Alex E. Peña served as an Aeromedical Evacuation Technician flying aeromedical evacuation missions from Viet Nam for over one year. He retired from Headquarters, United States Air Force Reserve (AFRES) in 1994 after 40 years of service.
Alex lived the American dream as a citizen warrior achieving remarkable success with a steadfast commitment to continuous improvement both militarily and professionally. He worked with City Public Service for 34 years as a Draftsman in the Transmission & Distribution Engineering Department, retiring in 1997. He obtained an Associate's Degree from San Antonio College and was a licensed REALTOR for many years and obtained his real-estate Broker's license, ultimately owning his own real-estate company, AP Realty.
Alex was an avid golfer and consistently shot in the low to mid 80's. He was a member of various golfing clubs and enjoyed traveling around the world, spending time with his friends and family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2017, with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
