

Alfonso G. DeLeon, Jr, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. He was born in San Antonio, TX on April 01, 1936 to Alfonso and Amparo Garin DeLeon of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Alfonso grew up on the city’s west side in the Alazan-Apache courts with his 11 brothers and sisters.
Alfonso joined the U.S Army in 1955 and honorary served his country before going on to work at Kelly Air Force Base. There he started his work as a janitor, however, at night he studied at Philip’s college and became an aircraft electrician, ultimately retiring with 35 years of service at Kelly AFB. He received numerous awards for his dedication and hard work and was always willing to work extra to provide for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers and sisters; Manuel, Trinidad, Ernestina, Margarita, Marina, Alfredo, Raquel, Roberto & Armando.
Alfonso is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gloria Leija DeLeon; children, Jaime DeLeon (Katherine) & Jose DeLeon (Diana); grandchildren, Caitlynn DeLeon, Sophia DeLeon, Michael DeLeon, Daniel DeLeon, & Sebastian DeLeon; brothers, Juan DeLeon & Alberto DeLeon.
Alfonso will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind and gentle man who deeply loved Jesus. He believed in the power of prayer and would often pray over his family and friends. Alfonso loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed all sports, including boxing and tennis and loved to go fishing in the Gulf Coast. Alfonso was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all.
