

Alfonso “Big Al” R. Puente beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, bus-driver, SCIF-rat, bowler, pit-master, machinist, steelworker, U.S. Marine and friend to all passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 1st at the age of 89. He was a native of San Antonio, Texas and was proud of his West Side heritage and the many summers spent with cousins picking cotton near Bishop, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Luisa; parents, Epemenio Puente and Maria Regalado; beloved sister, Patsy Garcia and brothers Ernest, Daniel and Epemenio, Junior. Survivors include sisters Estella Devora and Elia Flores; children Mark A. Puente, Alfonso L. Puente (Angela), Leticia R. Puente (Joe Maldonado) and Imelda C. Puente; grandchildren Michael A. Sena (Erica), Nicholas Perez, Selena D. Beeler (Killian), Kristal Pardo, Logan Puente, Kristopher Pardo (Briana), Riel Perez (Sora-Mai) and Antonio Perez; great grandchildren Stella, Elaina, Annabelle, Anthony, Alastair, Jane and Leila-Mai.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., followed immediately by a Rosary service commencing at 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
A procession will depart from Porter Loring Mortuary on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. to Holy Rosary Catholic Church where Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. followed by a procession to the burial service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The family will host a reception immediately following the burial service at St. Paul’s Community Center, 1201 Donaldson Ave., San Antonio, TX 78228.
The family respectfully requests that visitors to the rosary and funeral events dress in black, white and silver to commemorate Big Al’s devotion to the San Antonio Spurs.
