

Alford Algo Kline Jr., age 83, of San Antonio, loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather, passed away at 2 a.m. November 18, 2012. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today, November 21, 2012, at Sunset Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service, with the Reverend Kim DeVries of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and Pastor Conrad Walker officiating. Special music provided by friends of the family, Mrs. Ruth Moreland and son, Andrew Moreland. Interment will be Friday, November 23, 2012, in Memory Park Cemetery in Longview, Texas. Al was born October 14, 1929, in Shreveport, La. He graduated from Longview High School in 1946 and served in the Merchant Marines in 1948. He attended Kilgore Jr. College and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1964, with honors from Alpha Sigma Lambda. Al was employed by Southwestern Bell from 1949 through 1985. He began work as a lineman and worked in that capacity for 13 years. On completion of his business degree, he went into management as Installation Foreman, Outside Plant Construction and Outside Plant Budgets 2nd line Manager until retirement March 1, 1985, after 36 years and months service. March 1, 1949, Al married his one true love, Rose Marie Thompson of Paris, Texas. Al and Rose had three daughters, Alice Marie, DiAnne and Virginia Beth. He was a member of MacArthur Park Lutheran Church from 1968 thru 2010, where he served on the church council, as treasurer and on various building committees. He is currently a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. He and Rose were volunteers with the Meals on Wheels program for several years. Al devoted his life to God and family, and trusted God in all things. He loved the 23rd Psalm and his favorite hymn was “How Great Thou Art.” He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara; father. Alford; sisters, Dorothy, Nancy, Nean and Margaret; brother, Charles; and grandsons, Stephen and Michael Ward. Al is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Rose Marie; daughters, Alice and Larry Ward, DiAnne and Don Hakala and Beth Fain; grandchildren, Noelle and Brandon Hoth, Tom Hakala, Ryan Fain, Becky Fain and Evelyn Ward; great-grandchildren, Vivian Rose and Isaac Hoth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Al, Daddy, Pepa or friend, whatever he was called in this life, will be truly missed by many and will be loved forever. Well done, my good and faithful servant.
