

Alfred was born to a musical family and music was his life. His principal instruments were the violin, marimba, and the vibraphone.
His musical career spanned from the time he was eight years old delighting audiences with a varied repertoire of music. He was a member of a number of musical groups and formed his own trio, Marimba Sounds, in 1980.
He played all over San Antonio including for such dignitaries as our municipal, national and worldwide government leaders. Alfred served in the U.S. Army from May 25, 1942 to October 30, 1945 and was assigned to the U.S. Army Band. He also served in the Army Corps of Engineers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Aurora; his sons, Dan and his wife Vee, Mark, and Alfred and his wife Eileen; his daughters, Aida, and Jacqueline and her husband Julian; grandchildren Jason and Julia Alvarez, Christopher, Andrew and Adam Castro, Ricardo, Luis, Marcos and José Gonzales, Linda, Matthew, Christopher and Mark Castro and Reneé; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jesse R. Orta; numerous nieces and nephews.
