Alfred Philo Howard, Jr. was born in Houston, TX on June 13, 1922 to Alfred Philo and Nancy Flewellen Howard, Sr. and passed away in New Braunfels, TX on January 3, 2013 at the age of 90. He was a veteran and P.O.W. during WWII, serving in the United States Air Force, where he flew P51 Mustangs. After the military he was an insurance salesman in Houston, TX for many years. Alfred was an avid golfer and a loving family man. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Howard. Surviving are his daughter, Mary Mize Hellums and husband, Jesse; son, A. Philo Howard III and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Trey Hellums and his wife, Missy, Hunt Hellums and his wife, Araceli, and Mary Katherine Howard; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Reagan, Hunter and Emma Grace Hellums. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, on Friday, January 11, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
