

He was respected for his integrity and patriotism. He joined the US Marine Corps at the young age of 16 serving as a combat photographer and documentary filmmaker for Time Inc. during WWII.
At the age of 36, he retired as a Captain and as the youngest retired military officer in the Marine Corps. As a member of "the Greatest Generation" he received two of his promotions on the Battlefield.
Returning to San Antonio, he served on the city council from 1975 to 1977 and as mayor pro tem from June 23 to August 13, 1978. Al earned the respect of many community leaders, being so much a part of building San Antonio.
Al was a leader in San Antonio Commercial Real Estate for over 50 years. During that time he became active in many civic endeavors and served as the City's Uncle Sam for 27 years.
Al Rohde Park, 9 acres off Babcock Road, was dedicated in 2009. Mr. Rohde was also co-developer of Alamo Kampgrounds, Rohde, Ottmers Siegel Realty Services, Route 66 Pictures and Rohde & Co.
A well known artist and recently a film producer, Al Rohde lived a full life.
"He was a multifaceted, loving, big-hearted manwith lots of interests and love".
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Rohde and two brothers, Chester and Sterling Rohde. He is survived by his son, Alfred W. "Tom" Rohde III and wife, Lourdes Pope Rohde; daughter, Elizabeth Rohde Phillips and husband, Bill; grandsons: Taylor Phillips, Ben Phillips and Alfred W. Rohde IV; granddaughters, Alex Rohde Ghez and Madison Rohde; and his brother, G. Fred Rohde.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2nd from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
