It's your 50th Birthday! I sure do miss you.

Alferd, you are best known to me and my family as Al. You were a wonderful friend to my daughter Brandy and for that I will be forever greatful. In your many visits with us, you brought such joy and laughter. Your smiling face will be deeply missed. May God watch over your family during this time of grief. I know you are in heaven, so tell Bill hello for us.

Alfred - You once called me your angel on earth. You have no idea how reversed that statement was. I have always believed you are my miracle. You came into my life at a time when I needed to be reminded that love is pure and undemanding. You loved me and accepted my love, and made me feel safe in a friendship that I have always treasured. No one can ever know the depth of my sorrow that I was not there when you needed me and that I did not have the opportunity to tell you good-bye. My love and friendship for you have never waivered. From the first skittle you offered me more than 12 years ago you have brought joy, laughter, faith and love into my life. I will carry you with me always. Please say hi to Grandpa for me and ask him to save me a dance. I hope you finally get to use the wings you've kept hidden for so long and fly with the angels. I love you my angel. Good Bye.

Al, To the only person which I have ever known to really live each day like it was there last. You were so caring and compassionate towards others, including myself. I will ALWAYS remember how you would always say "I love you" at the end of a conversation, even if we were planning on seeing each other in an hour. You and Michael were truly blessed to have each other in your lives. You had always expressed the love you have for your entire family and how important they were to you. 
Although you and I had not worked side by side for years I felt no void of your absence. And now that God has called you home for his purpose I can no longer be selfish with my thoughts. 
I have pictures of us smiling together and that will be sufficient until I meet you in Heaven.

Dear Al Tovar and family, 
I'm so sorry for your loss. I called on Al as the Medicaid rep when he worked at Wal Mart on Jones Maltsberger. He was very busy at the time, fielding calls, waiting on customers, and talking to me. I was so impressed. He was really a great pharmacist. Kept cool under fire and was extremely pleasant to me and everyone around him. 
When I realized he was your son, I told him, "your father must be very proud of you". 
I am so sorry I didnt know abt him till just recently or I would have attended the funeral. Please accept my sympathies.

Al and I met when we were just kids, he was 20 and I was 22, we worked together and became very close. We shared some great times and helped each other through the awkwardness becoming adults. There is and always will be a very special place in my heart for Alf, 
Although he and I hadn't seen each other in many years, I learned of his passing by searching to reconnect with him. My heart goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Tovar, to Albert and Alex and the entire family. Although I did not know you as well as my cousin Stella did, I feel like I do know you, thanks to your mom. She always talked about you so proudly because you were such a good son with this "huge" kind heart, always helping out someone in need. My prayers are with you and the rest of your family. "God's Garden" 
God looked around His garden and He found an empty place , he then looked down upon this earth,and saw your tired face . He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful . He always takes the best.He knew that you were suffering,He knew you were in pain .He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids, and whispered, "Peace be thine." it broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone part of us went with you the day God called you home. Our hearts and souls are with the Griffis and Tovar family .

I was so sorry to hear of your loss of Alfred. He is the first friend I remember as a child and your family will always hold a special place in my heart. Please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Missy

Alfred is a good man and I am proud to have known him. The week of Eva Gutierrez death, I was running an errand for my father and had to go to the Time Warner Cable building. While in the customer service line Alfred came in and looked kind of lost, not sure why he was there. We exchanged hugs and asked how each were doing and then he just left. He disappeared as quickly as he arrived. In some strange way it was as if God was letting me tell him good bye. He will always hold a special place in my heart. In our younger/crazier days, I would use Alfred's Texas I.D. to get into clubs as an adult. I knew his address, drivers license number and even his astrological sign. He got me into many clubs and bought me many drinks over the years. I think I am the only man other than Alfred to say I am proud TO BE Alfred E. Tovar. I miss you Fred

Alfred, Rosie, Doedoes, Alex and the rest of the Family, 
 My condolences go to you and your family for the loss of Alfie. Know that the Lord will get you all through this and keep you in His hands. I remember when me, my mom and my dad would always hang out at your house when you used to live here in Austin. What wonderful memories I have when I used to play with Alfie and Doedoes, when we were little. I am an old childhood friend of Alex?s and I just wanted Alex and all of his family to know how deeply sorry I am for their loss. When I heard about Alfred's passing, I was upset and hurt because I knew that my friend must be grieving. I just wanted to offer my condolences and a memory of Alfred. 
I remember meeting Alfred at a party for Alex on Longvail. Alfred was the cool Big Brother always smiling, he was always teasing Alex because of all the little girls who would call him on the phone. I remember all three brothers were fond of each other. So I know this is tearing them everyone up inside. 
It's hard to say good bye to someone your love. Even though he is gone he will never be forgotten. His spirit lives on in your most inner thoughts, cherished moments, and he will always be in your hearts. 
May God Bless the entire family in this time of sorrow. You all are in my prayers.

Al, Mel and I will miss those early morning doorbell rings, when you would stop by just to give us a hug before going to work. 
 We will miss all those moments of laughter and acting silly, either at your house or ours, but most of all we will miss traveling with you. You have always given us something to smile about, even those days that seem like laughter is impossible...you have always managed to bring smiles, joy and happiness to Mel and myself! Every person we meet, whether briefly or infinitely, is for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Al was my friend for all three. There was a reason God put him in my path, and for that I am forever grateful. We lost contact for a while, but it felt like only for a season. I consider Al a friend and he will live in my heart for a lifetime. Kathy and I will always remember Al and Michael. Our hearts and prayers go out to them and to the Tovar family.

Al was a true friend and was always there to lend an ear. When I first met him I was going through a divorce and he told me I would find someone and I met my third wife a few months later. I have known Al as both a colleague and friend for the last 13 years. The thing that always impressed me most was his inability to say NO. I remember testing systems on the weekends and overnight with Al. I also remember him showing up bright and early at all of the charity walks, and sitting in the middle of the floor to wrap presents for a needy family during the holidays. Al never forgot a birthday or anniversary of a friend and was always there if you just needed someone to talk to--and he always saw the bright side of everything. Al treasured his education and was always the first to volunteer to learn something new. His memory will live on through his good works in the community and hopefully spur others on to fill the very large shoes he left behind. If he were here right now I know he would be leading a drive to help the Katrina evacuees. I am going to try and fill just a corner of his shoes by doing what he would be doing now if he could. I started yesterday with boxes of school supplies to 3 of my neighborhood schools and checks for PE uniforms for the displaced kids. They will never know or see the memo line that says in Memory of Al Tovar--but it is there and his legacy of giving will live on.

The thing I will miss the most is that smile! No matter what, Al was always smiling. I could always count on Al to be the first to voluteer for testing on the weekends. During these long nights we would often pass the time catching each other up on our families. Al was so proud of his family and their achievements. I will miss my colleague and friend.
