

Allen Thomas Snyder, Colonel-Retired, U.S. Air Force, passed away on March 18, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on September 15, 1946, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Harold Thomas Snyder and Emily Ryan Snyder.
Allen was a distinguished military officer, retiring as a Colonel after 26 years of service in the United States Air Force. His dedication to service was followed by a career in education, teaching special education for 13 years at Lackland Independent School District, where he made a lasting impact on his students.
A graduate of Jefferson High School in 1964, Allen earned his B.S. degree from Baylor University in 1968. He continued his education, receiving an MBA from St. Mary's University in 1977 and a M.Ed from Texas State University in 1999.
Allen was deeply involved in his community and gave his time to many charitable organizations. He served on the Board of Directors for Security Service Federal Credit Union and was a board member at Guide Dogs of Texas. He was also a former Lector at Randolph Chapel.
Allen’s life was marked by his strong faith, and he was an avid supporter of guide dogs, welcoming them into his home as they trained. He was previously involved in finding loving homes for retired racing greyhounds, showcasing his compassionate nature.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Cheryl Pierce Snyder; his children, Mark A. Snyder and Lisa A. Curtis (Jack); and his grandchildren, J.T. Curtis and Callie Curtis.
Allen’s legacy of faith, service, and love for others will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
