Allie Irene Roberts, age 92, passed away on July 18, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on May 19,1931 in Naylor, Missouri to Sadie(Steel) and Wesley Bates. She was the baby out of ten children. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Roberts, her mother Sadie, her father Wesley, her nine siblings and son in-law Rex Rheiner. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Rheiner and Patricia Roberts; her grandchildren, John Rheiner and Jeffrey Rheiner; and her great grandchildren, Audrey and Bradley.
Irene moved to San Antonio, Texas with the love of her life in her twenties. She worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator for thirteen years until she became a full-time mother.
She also took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. Irene moved from across town so she could pick up her grandchildren from school every day and spoil them during their summer breaks. Irene also loved to spoil her two great grandchildren. Spending time with them brought joy to her heart and a big smile on her face.
Irene was a woman of faith. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for over 40 years. She served on the Mary-Martha Guild, Prayer chain Braille and Quilting committees. Irene also helped start up the Good Samaritan Thrift Store for which she managed for three years.
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed the family is for all the caregivers who spent countless hours taking care of our loved one for the past few years. Also, a heartfelt thank you to the San Antonio Fire Department for always responding and doing everything they could for her.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 30th from 3-6 pm at Sunset Funeral Home. The Graveside service will be held on Monday, July 31st at 9:00 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter #4.
