Almalu Barber went to meet her Lord September 4, 2018. She was born in Santa Rosa, Texas, September 21, 1934 to William and Thelma Barnett. Almalu was raised in a large, singing family who shared a love and talent for performing Christian music. This lifelong passion led her to serve as music minister in several churches including; First Baptist Church, Pharr and Dellview Baptist Church, San Antonio. She inspired countless people to use their gifts to sing joyfully to the Lord. As a graduate of Tarleton State University she followed another dream and lovingly taught children for 26 years. As she moved around the country as a military and pastor’s wife she found ways to serve and make lasting friendships everywhere she went. She loved sharing stories and memories of old friends and dear family. Even with all of her accomplishments there was nothing that brought her more joy and pride than her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Chaplain Charles Barber (COL), USAR retired. Her sons: Donald R. (Janice), Richard A. (Nora), Russel D. (Valerie). She was a proud Grandmother of David (Denise), Rachel (Ben), Jonathan, Aaron (Natalia), Phillip, Jacob (Jennifer), Caleb (Liz), Loralie (Chris), and she welcomed Hannah (Ryan), Rebekah (Ryan), Leah, and Naomi as her own. She delighted in her great-granddaughters: Hannah, Abby, Madison, Rylie, Brooklyn, Zaely, Zyla, and Dylan. She cherished time with her one surviving sister, Elizabeth Lively of Salado, TX, her Aunt Jean Jordan of Fort Worth and her many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
