

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alonzo Saenz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this world on January 31, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on November 25, 1946, in Alice, Texas, Alonzo lived a life rich with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Alonzo was a proud graduate of Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, TX, Class of 1965. He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. His professional life was marked by over 30 years of dedicated service at Dupont Refinery in Ingleside, Texas, where he was known for his hard work and integrity.
Alonzo's greatest source of pride came from his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Aurora Saenz, and their three sons: Jerald Matthew Saenz, Joseph Rey Saenz (Deseree), and John Robert Saenz (Stephanie), and his sister, Lydia Saenz (Daniel). Alonzo's legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Roberto Perez, Jayden Austin Delgado, Jordan Luke Saenz, and Alexander Michael Alonzo Saenz, as well as granddaughters Natalia Isabel Saenz and Giselle Maribel Saenz. He also leaves behind many loving nephews and nieces who will cherish his memory.
Alonzo was a man of many passions. He found joy in working on his yard, taking great pride in its appearance, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and family with various handyman jobs. An avid golfer, he cherished the time spent on the green with his sons, nephews, and friends, creating lasting memories. Alonzo also loved watching sports and game shows, often enjoying these moments in the company of his beloved family. Furthermore, he was renowned for his exceptional barbecue skills, often bringing people together over meals that he lovingly prepared.
Throughout his life, Alonzo was known for his kindness and humility. He served as a Knight of Columbus at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was an active member of the Holy Trinity A.C.T.S. Retreat Team. Above all, he was a devoted disciple of Christ, embodying the values of compassion and service. His home was a sanctuary for all who needed it, a testament to his generous spirit. Alonzo's smile was infectious, and his sense of humor brought warmth and joy to those around him. He made a meaningful impact on the lives he touched and will be remembered as a legend in the Saenz, Romero, and Torres families.
Alonzo is preceded in death by his beloved brother Reynaldo Saenz Jr., his sister Olivia Romero (Reynaldo), his brother-in-law Joe Torres, and his cherished parents, Reynaldo Saenz Sr. and Amalia Saenz. He also meets in Heaven his loving sisters-in-law, Eugenia Kelsey and Yolanda Rubio.
A visitation for Alonzo will be held Monday, February 10, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A rosary & vigil will follow at 7:00 PM. A final viewing will take place Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Sunset North Funeral Home with a funeral procession going to St. Matthew Catholic Church for a 10:00 AM Mass. A committal service will occur Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
