

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Alton Charles Fuos announce his peaceful passing on December 17, 2025. Al was born on December 19, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, to Alton Henry and Ruby Naomi Long Fuos. Al was a fourth generation Texan and graduated from George W. Brackenridge High School in the class of 1955. He played the trombone with the Brackenridge HS Band and completed over fifteen years of voice training under the direction of former coach, Mary Stuart Loper. Colonel Fuos became a Christian and formally joined the McKinley Avenue United Methodist Church as a young man.
In the Fall of 1955, Colonel Fuos began pursuing his post-secondary education at the University of Texas in Austin and studied Personnel/Industrial Relations. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity at UT and graduated in 1960. After finishing his BBA, he joined the United States Air Force Reserve. He was a member of the 433rd Tactical Airlift Wing for thirteen years at which time he was given a direct appointment as a First Lieutenant. After his thirteen years of service, in 1976, Colonel Fuos was called to Active Duty to assist the Military Personnel Center in writing policies for retirements, promotions, mobilization and many other assignments.
Colonel Fuos served in the United States Air Force for a total of 35 years and retired as a Colonel on November 30, 1995, from Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois. During his time in Belleville, he and his wife, Beverly joined St. George’s Episcopal Church and made many lifelong friends there. After moving back to their hometown of San Antonio, Texas, they transferred their membership back to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and were lovingly welcomed by the friends they had made in earlier years. He and his wife, Beverly spent their retirement years traveling to some of their favorite places like Hawaii, Alaska, New Zealand. London and Australia.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Noami Fuos, as well as his brother, Ronald David Fuos. He is survived by, his loving wife of 39 years, Beverly Jean Craig-Fuos; his four children Steven, Scott, Stuart Craig and Jayme Presley; his 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Al was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family admired him and valued the way that he took the time to listen, celebrate, and assist. He will be remembered as a man of great character who was kind, unselfish and generous beyond measure.
Funeral Services will be held on December 29, 2025, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church; 15 St. Luke's Lane; San Antonio, Texas 78209 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a gathering in the parlor for friends and family after his service and then his burial service will be at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home; 1701 Austin Hwy.; San Antonio, Texas 78218 at 1:00 p.m.
Alton and Beverly lived their lives according to Mark 12:30-31 which says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.”
