Our family has known Jolly uncle for nearly 40 years since back in New Jersey.  I was probably about 4 or 5 when I met him the first time in New Jersey. We were fortunate enough to reconnect after many years when we moved to San Antonio. Jolly uncle always had a huge presence , and you knew he was the life of the party.  He’s constant jovial and positive nature gave him the ability to make someone laugh and smile even if it’s the first time he met them was just amazing.  He was one of the most generous people I have ever met in my life and that has been a constant theme from everyone who knew him.  He made friends so quickly and when you met him, you knew there was something special about him.

As we all know, Jolly uncle was fond of new cars, and I know many people in San Antonio, including myself, that have gotten the Jolly special discount from the dealerships.  But anytime anyone said “Hey Uncle, nice car!” he would respond by handing you the keys and say “Go ahead, Take it for a spin.” And it didn’t matter if he knew you or you just met, the response would be the same, because that’s just who he was!

I still remember his grandson  Zails birthday at Tobin center we were there celebrating with the family and watching the play Clifford the Big Red Dog.  I think it was at intermission, they were selling the plush toy for Clifford, and Jolly uncle bought every single one of them and handed them out to every one of  the kids.  That’s who Jolly uncle was!  He would do anything just to put a smile on someone face.  If we can be inspired by Jolly Uncle to live our own life more generously, we could truly celebrate and honor his life and his legacy!

Jolly uncle in every interaction lived up to his name. His smile revealed and internal optimism and happiness that often became infectious.
