Andrew (Andy) Janczar Loxsom passed away on June 4, 2023 after an 18 month struggle with cancer. At his death, Andy was surrounded by loving friends and family. He is survived by his parents Pauline Loxsom and Fred Loxsom, his brother Peter Loxsom, nephew Gray Loxsom, nieces Arwen Loxsom and Morgan Loxsom, and sister-in-law Molly Loxsom. He is also survived by cousins Russell Anderson, Wesley Anderson, and Jennifer Anderson.
Andy was born in Hanover, NH in 1966 and moved to Texas with his family in 1970. He attended Ridgeview Elementary School, Nimitz Middle School and Lee High School. He entered Trinity University in 1984, graduating with a degree in chemistry in 1989. While at Trinity he was a member of Alpha Psi fraternity. After college, Andy earned a law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston and then returned to San Antonio to work in criminal law and family law. He served as an appointed criminal defense attorney for Bexar County and as a child advocate for Child Protective Services. He worked jointly with his friend David Rodriguez during some of this period. Andrew married Veronica Maria Martinez in 2003 and was welcomed into Veronica’s wonderful family. Although Andy and Veronica divorced without children in 2010, Andy remained close to the family and the children of Veronica’s sister, Marcy Garcia, still consider him to be Uncle Andy.
Andy was diagnosed with lung cancer in December 2021 and was treated at Mays Cancer Center in San Antonio. During this period he struggled with anxiety and depression before receiving psychiatric and counseling support. This experience gave him an enduring interest in and respect for NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. During most of 2022 Andy was in remission and was confident that he would have a healthy future. He joined Ohana Academy where he began to learn the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu, a sport that he thoroughly enjoyed. He was also able to return to playing disc golf and a variety of online role-playing and video games. Although Andy learned in early 2023 that his cancer had returned, he never lost confidence that he would recover and planned to open a family law practice in January 2024. Andy was extraordinarily bright and articulate with a unique personality and intellectual outlook. He made and maintained many friendships through his participation over many years in games, beginning with Dungeons and Dragons and continuing with arcade games, online games, disc golf, and Jiu Jitsu.
He loved his family, his friends, the practice of law, arguing his position, working in his yard, playing games, viewing anime, studying Spanish and Japanese, Mexican food, his dog Dingo, and his three cats. A celebration of life will be held at his home on Sunday, July 9. Please contact the family for details. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to NAMI, the Mays Cancer Center, or the Humane Society.
