Angelita R. Sanchez, age 97, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 31, 2026. She was born on January 29, 1929, to Mercedes Melchor and Jose Rubio in San Antonio, Texas. Angelita was one of four children—Maria, Jesse, and Concepcion. They lived a modest and humble life, always placing their faith and family first. She learned many lessons growing up, but the values that defined Angelita were her love and giving heart. She welcomed everyone into her home and treated all as if they were part of her family.
She married the love of her life, Juan P. Sanchez, and together they were blessed with nine children: Janie Vidal (Henry, deceased), Joe (Judy, deceased), Gerardo (deceased), Ernest (Virginia), Juan Jr (Linda), Ana (Charles), Tony, Abel (Lisa), and Larry. Our family has been blessed with 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren—five generations in all—along with our extended families: Mata, Castillo, Mendoza, and Sanchez.
Angelita's devotion to her family was evident in the unique relationship she shared with each person. Though each of us had our own special bond with Mom or Grandma, we all shared the same love for such a genuine and caring soul. We will carry her advice, her love, and her dedication with us as we continue to follow our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her generous heart extended far beyond her family. She lovingly cleaned and prepared food for Sister Nelda and the doctors at the Stella Maris Clinic, cooked meals for countless celebrations, and offered a helping hand to neighbors and friends. She always made time to listen, offering thoughtful words of comfort and guidance. She cherished family time—telling stories, dancing, taking pictures, attending ceramics and bingo at the Madona Center, and especially visiting casinos. She loved going with her son, Joe, often getting "lost" in the machines; after searching for her, he would find her smiling with her winnings and ready to eat.
Angelita's faith in the Lord sustained her throughout life and gave her strength, courage, and tenacity during her health struggles. Her faith was the driving force behind everything she did. Her spirit will continue to live through her children, who will preserve and uphold the traditions, values, and legacy of Angelita R. Sanchez.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237, on August 11, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. A Rosary Service will follow at 7:00 pm.
A processional will depart from the funeral home at 11:30 am for a Mass of The Resurrection that will be celebrated at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 1730 Dahlgreen Ave, San Antonio, TX 78237, on August 12, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
Committal services will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, on August 12, 2026, at 2:00 pm and a Reception to follow at San Martin De Porres Hall in St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 1730 Dahlgreen Ave, San Antonio, TX 78237, on August 12, 2026, at 4:00 pm.
