Born on April 8, 1941, Angie was the daughter of Andres and Anita Montez. She grew up in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, and was the second oldest of twelve children. From an early age, she understood the meaning of family, love and responsibility. Angie played an integral role in the lives of her younger brothers and sisters, offering them care and guidance while becoming a steady source they could always rely on. Her generous heart for her family remained a defining part of who she was throughout her life.
Angie met her beloved husband, Pablo, while he was serving in the United States Navy and stationed in Corpus Christi. Their connection was immediate and in just five months, their beautiful courtship led to their marriage on July 29,1967. For 59 years, their love was deep and lasting, proving that sometimes the heart needs only a moment to recognize a lifetime.
After Angie and Pablo married, they began their life together as a Navy family, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. While Pablo was deployed, Angie returned to Corpus Christi where she lovingly welcomed their first son, Paul Edward, and nearly two years later, their second son, Marcus, surrounded by the support of her family. The military then took them to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and later to Key West, Florida, where their third son, Eric, was born. From there, they were stationed in San Antonio, Texas, where their only daughter, Ida, was born and where they ultimately made their permanent home after Pablo retired from a 20-year career in the Navy.
As her children grew older, Angie began a new chapter of purpose and service within her church community at St. Helena Catholic Church, working first as a bookkeeper and later as the office manager. She approached her work with dedication and took great pride in supporting her church and its congregation. Additionally, she embraced life with many interests and cherished the simple joys that brought people together. She was an avid reader who could often be found with a good book, she participated in a weekly ladies’ bowling league and always looked forward to her monthly Bunco games with treasured friends. She especially loved weekend trips with her family whether to Garner State Park or Rockport, Texas.
Angie was always happiest when her house was full. She had a unique gift for making everyone feel like a part of the family when they walked through her door. She was “mom” to many more than just her own four children. Her backyard pool parties; Christmas Eve open houses and neighborhood tamale-making gatherings are woven into the memories and stories of so many who loved her.
Angie is survived by her husband of 59 years and their four children: Paul Edward Garcia (Teresa), Marcus Garcia (Kathy), Eric Garcia (Kiley), and Ida Hanson (Matt); their grandchildren Shannon Lawhon (Kyle), Jessica Garcia (Nicole), Jennifer Vicent (Francisco), Parker Garcia, Reese Garcia, Maxwell Hanson (Jordi), Henry Hanson and Vivian Hanson; and great grandchildren Carter, Kyah, Shane, and Samson. Angie is also survived by her sisters Amparo Chapa (Hector), Annette Kolda (Tim), Audrey Pena (Juventino), and her brothers Arnold Montez (Janet, deceased), Anthony Montez (Maria), Alfred Montez (Sara), and Arthur Montez (Christine), and many extended family members and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Mary (Anita) Benavidez (Felipe, deceased) and brothers Augustine Montez (Ana, deceased), Andres Montez Jr. (Beverly), and Albert Montez (Lena).
Angie lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love. Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life, and she found strength and comfort in prayer and in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, faith and memory will remain a lasting part of the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Angie’s family invites family and friends to join them in celebrating her life and honoring her memories.
Visitation will be held on August 24, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Porter Loring Funeral Home, located at 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX, 78232. A Rosary will be offered at 5:00 PM, with a reception to follow. Mass will be celebrated the next day on August 25 at 9:30 AM at St. Helena Catholic Church, located at 14714 Edgemont St., San Antonio, TX, 78247.
Following Mass, Angie will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
