With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anita Madrigal Cantu, who entered into rest on September 1, 2026 at the age of 83. Born on August 3, 1943 in San Antonio, TX, Anita lived a life filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. She was a devoted Catholic Christian and found joy in spending time with her children and family.
She was an auxiliary member of the VFW Post #4815 and the San Antonio Drums Dance Team. She loved to play Bingo, pool and listen to Tejano and Oldies music.
During her life, she shared her seamstress qualities with designing all kinds of evening gowns for her daughters for very special occasions. She was a hairdresser and owned a beauty salon for many years.
Anita was known for her kindness and generous heart. Gift-giving was one of her love languages and she found great delight in buying Christmas gifts for everyone in the family including those close friends of a family member. She loved family gatherings and was often the heart of every celebration. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and in the memories shared by those who were blessed to know and love her. She will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Cantu is preceded in death by her husband, Refugio Jose Cantu; parents, Ricardo Madrigal Sr. and Juanita Vela Madrigal; son, Joe Cantu; brothers, Armando Madrigal, Richard Madrigal Jr. and Luis Ochoa; sister, Gloria Rivera.
She is survived by her children, Ernest Cantu (Becky), Rudy M. Cantu (Shane), Gabriel Cantu (Diana), John Christopher Dominguez, Mark Anthony Dominguez (Michelle), Monica Medina (Daniel), Elizabeth Cantu and Craig Sierra; 38 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; sister, Virginia Rodriguez; also, numerous nieces and nephews.
The Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2026 at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino, 226 Cupples Rd. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Procession will depart from the funeral home on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of The Resurrection at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, 907 W. Theo Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78225. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.
