Ann attended Incarnate Word High School, graduating in 1964. She married Chuck – her "captain", her "hero" -- just five weeks before he deployed to Vietnam in 1967. She continued her studies at UT Austin, then Incarnate Word College, graduating in 1968 with a degree in art. She also represented Incarnate Word College as a Princess in the Miss Fiesta Presentation of 1965. Ann was a devoted wife and supported Chuck in his corporate career and later in creating an exquisite home in San Antonio where she enjoyed her role as wife and loving mother to her two children, Paige and Chip (Charles F. McAleer IV). They later moved to Atlanta and Chicago as Chuck pursued his role as Senior Vice President of Marketing for a major financial services corporation in Chicago, later retiring in San Antonio. "Ann was a very creative person and talented artist. She enjoyed painting, playing piano and was an accomplished interior decorator, making each home distinctive and inviting, said close friend Christina Rogers Chitwood.
Many of Ann's IWHS classmates have e-mailed tributes from all around the country, all testifying to her radiant smile. "Ann had a quiet listening ear with patience and understanding, even while still suffering with her own health issues and problems". Ann had an intense love for her dogs Cody and, especially Belle, their yellow labrador. Belle reciprocated Ann's and Chuck's patient and tender rescue care by becoming a lifeline for Ann, alerting when her blood sugar levels became dangerously low.
Ann is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Charles F. McAleer III; son, Charles F. McAleer IV (Chip) and his wife, Michelle, grandchildren, Charles F. McAleer V (Chase) and Lauren Elizabeth; daughter, Elizabeth Paige Goad and husband Charles; her brother, William Rex and wife Jill and their children, Ann Turnbull and son, William Rex, Jr. "She was strikingly beautiful and a wonderful wife and an incredible mother," said Chuck. "So many IWHS classmates are sending tributes, agreeing that "Ann was always a shining light, with her friendly smile, making everyone feel special -- and she maintained that throughout her blessed life."
A memorial service to honor Ann will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8500 Cross Mountain, San Antonio, 78255 at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 18, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hill Country Animal League/SPCA, Inc., 924 N. Main St., Boerne, TX 78006.
