My beautiful wife, Annie, entered a new phase of her life-long relationship with Jesus Christ on February 21, 2026 surrounded by her family. Annie is my definition of love, faith, beauty, grace, dignity, and a helluva good cook. For a guy who at one time thought he might be a life-long bachelor, meeting Annie was like oxygen for a drowning man. I knew within hours of our earliest Denver days that she was the one; I only worried that she wouldn’t come to the same conclusion.
As a direct descendant of a Mayflower passenger, Annie was genetically inclined to adventure and how wonderful are all the memories I carry of our 46 years together. Some ordinary rough spots, but fortunately we recognized those as just potholes in life’s road. Thankfully, my cherished memories far out-weigh all else: memories of dating, wedding, working, re-modeling, praying, camping, skiing, playing, boating, loving, swimming, Telluriding, friending, birthing, cooking, traveling, churching, hiking, eating, housing, RV-ing, moving, scootering, gaming, TV-ing, laughing, shopping, spooning, movie-ing, exercising, dogging and walking. It makes me happy just to write that list! There is no one in the world with whom I would rather have done it all.
As I said many times: the sweet, faith-filled, thoughtful, considerate, loving Annie that most saw in public settings was the same Annie I knew in private. How unusual and remarkable that is; how lucky I was.
Annie’s recent graduation was preceded by our daughter Morgan and our son Corban. She is survived by her husband Tim, her beautiful daughter Courtney, Courtney’s husband Hector, and Annie’s soon-to-be first grandchild, Jackson. She is also survived by three great brothers and their families: Peter and Judith Schumacher, Millie and Ray Schumacher, and Sandy & Chuck Schumacher. Annie and I are deeply grateful for the love and support of our community of friends and her compassionate doctors and caregivers.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 510 Belknap Pl, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
In lieu of flowers, it would please Annie for gifts to be made to the Annie Swan Legacy Fund at Grace Northridge Anglican Church, 2659 Eisenhauer Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.
