Anna Maria Bruni, 91, of San Antonio passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013. Anna Maria is survived by her sons Antonio E. and Edward R. Bruni Jr., daughters Fiorenza A. and Brunella L. Bruni, grandchildren Sienna M. and A. Vito Bruni, and Daniel R. Blachman. She also is survived in Empoli, Italy, by her brothers Tafino (Gina) and Umberto (Isa) Tafi, niece Anna, and nephew Alberto (Marina) Tafi and children Francesco and Laura. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 45 years Edward R. Bruni, her parents Ruggero and Carolina (Lottini) Tafi, and her baby sister Mariangiola.
Born in Pisa, Italy, on April 14, 1921, Anna Maria in her younger years performed "operette" in local theatre, sang for the queen of Italy, and won the pageant title of Queen of Smiles. This led to an enduring appreciation of opera and "la musica italiana." She began a storybook romance following World War II with Edward, a handsome Italian-American soldier who brought her to the U.S. She became a proud American citizen, and traveled with him and their children to Army destinations. She always was thrilled to return to Italy to spend precious time with her family.
Anna Maria shared an endearing warmth that won her many lifelong friends. Her generosity of spirit led her to volunteer for over 30 years as a member and photographer of the Boysville Auxiliary, as well as the St. John Altar Society. An avid reader, she delighted in being surrounded by her vast collection of novels and films. Anna Maria also cherished cooking for her family and gardening. But she was most famous for her passion for photography, as she was seldom seen without her camera. Anna Maria leaves behind many loved ones who will miss her adorable Tuscan accent. Her family will treasure forever her extraordinary love and support of their talents, education and careers. "Mamma, ti vogliamo tanto bene, ora e per sempre." Memorial donations may be made to the Boysville Auxiliary or St. John the Evangelist Altar Society.
