
She is preceded in death by her husband, Major Floyd Schwartz; mother, Anna Dunk, father, Sgt. Albert Dunk; brother, Lt. Col. Walter Dunk; brother, Joseph Dunk; sister, Cecilia Hilbig; son, Charles Prendergast, Jr.; and great-grandson, Kyle Barker.
Ann is survived by daughter, Shirley Turner, McKinney, Texas; son, James Prendergast and wife, Karen, San Antonio, Texas; daughters Sharon French, Union, Kentucky, and Kathy Barker, San Antonio, Texas; daughter-in-law, Patsy Prendergast, Spring, Texas; sister-in-law, Marylen Dunk, San Antonio, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ann attended Elementary, High School, and College in San Antonio. Ann taught 2nd grade at St. Gerard Elementary School for seven years before transferring to the San Antonio Independent School District where she worked in Special Programs until her retirement in 1985.
Ann was baptized in St. Joseph's Church downtown San Antonio and was confirmed in St. Gerard's Church. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church and later St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Ann was very active at Holy Spirit Church. She was a member of the Altar Society, serving as a Correspondent Secretary for two years, Chairperson of the St. Ann's Circle and Co-Chairperson of St. Rose of Limas' Circle. Ann was also a Eucharistic Minister and took much joy in bringing the body of Christ to the sick, especially her sister. She and Floyd were members of the "Los Amigos" Social Club and the first secretary of that club.
Her love of music took her to sing at St. Gerard's Choir for 15 years, singing her first solo at age 12. She also belonged to the Chorgemeinschaft of Texas German Choirs of Texas since 1973, traveling to Europe for concerts. She was very active in the Beethoven Damenchor, where she was president for several years.
Ann was also a member of the Retired Officers' Wives & Widows Club at Ft. Sam Houston and Associated Member of the USAA Golden Eagles' Club. She also spent many years as a "Bluebird" at Methodist Hospital.
Ann had a special place in her heart for children. She spent many years donating and helping the children at St. Peter's and St. Joseph's Children's Home. St. PJs as she affectionately referred to it.
Ann had a beautiful devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Our Lord's mother was very special to her and she was instrumental in setting up devotion to Our Lady at Holy Spirit Church. She inspired many to always pray the rosary.
Most of all Ann was a beautiful person, inside and out. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed.
