

Anne Hifler Barnes, 88, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, December 14th. She was born to the late John and Gladys Hifler, January 9, 1925, in Duke Center, PA. Anne moved to Nowata, OK, as a young girl and graduated from Nowata High School. She married the late Col. William (Bud) Barnes in 1945, and they were stationed all over the world before moving to San Antonio, TX in 1974. Anne was a homemaker and spent her free time sewing, crafting, and hosting parties, playing bridge with friends and cheering for her beloved San Antonio Spurs. Anne’s last two years were spent in Jacksonville as a resident and Ambassador of the Atria of San Pablo where the staff and residents became her second family.
Anne is survived by her three children: Barbette (Bill) Steele of Jacksonville, FL; John (Merlyn) Barnes of Kaneohe, HI; and Becky Barnes of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Jim Steele of Charlotte, NC; Julianne Davis of Jacksonville, FL; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in San Antonio, TX December 20, 2013 at The Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway at 9:00 a.m. Anne will be buried alongside her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
