Annette was born on December 12, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert and Patsy De La Garza, who preceded her in death. From an early age, Annette carried a deep love for her family, her faith, and her community. She was a devoted wife, mother, and servant of God.
She met the love of her life, Daniel Anthony Douglas, in English class her sophomore year of high school and later caught Daniel’s full attention while singing the song Sincerely with some friends in a school talent show. They were married on January 20, 1973, beginning a partnership built on a solid foundation of faith, hope and love.
In 1990, Annette and her family moved to the Texas Hill Country, where she felt most at home in all the beautiful nature that surrounded her.
Annette was a devout Christian whose life reflected her unwavering faith. She was a treasured part of her community at her church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church-Honey Creek. She dedicated countless hours serving the Lord as a Stephen Minister and supporting the Women’s ACTS Retreat. She also loved giving her time to the church rosary guild, choir, and by sharing God’s word with grace and conviction as a lecturer.
Annette would light up when she would paint and sing, and found her greatest joy in the simplest things, always adding a little color everywhere she went. She was effortless brushstrokes on a canvas and had a laugh that could make anyone smile.
She is survived by her husband; her children, Sabrina Douglas Gilroy, James Douglas, and Eric Douglas and his wife Betsy Kennedy; brothers and sister Carl De La Garza (Verlida), Robert De La Garza (Patsy) and Denise Wenger (Timothy); along with extended family members, dear friends, and her church family, who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Annette’s legacy is one of faith, love, and unwavering devotion. She will be remembered for her servant’s heart, kind spirit, gentle strength, and the light she brought into the lives of others. Though she has been called home, her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
The family would like to sincerely thank Nancy Estes for the loving care Annette received while in hospice.
