Annette Evans, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch, peacefully entered the Lord’s arms on the morning of November 4, at the age of 81. Born in Chicago, Illinois on April 18, 1944, her life was marked by devotion to family, caretaking, Italian heritage, and her kitchen.
Family reunions in heaven. Annette is reunited in heaven with her husband, Ronald Richard Evans; her mother, Ann Scalzitti Smith; her father, Charles Smith; her daughter, Kimberly Ann Mahaffey; and her stepson, Ronald Richard Evans II. She is survived by her son, William Dittman (Sylvia Dittman); Anthony Dittman (Renee Dittman); David Evans (Evelyn Evans); and daughter, Lynnette Dittman Delgado. She cherished numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.
A life of love through cooking and care. Anyone who knew Annette knew that cooking and baking were her greatest expression of love. Her parents opened a bakery in Chicago, and she enjoyed helping out. Her cherished recipes have been passed down through generations, carefully guarded and deeply treasured. Annette shared her passion for the kitchen with everyone who would take a bite. Her culinary gifts will continue to nourish and connect the family for years to come.
Career and service. After living in Chicago for many years, Annette moved to San Antonio, Texas in the 1970’s to allow her family to flourish. Annette and her husband opened a beauty salon, Richard Hair Designs, which became very successful. Yet, Annette’s most sacrificial work was caring for others - serving at Waterford Retirement Home and briefly in an Alzheimer’s unit - touching the lives of all around her.
The legacy of love for Annette was the strong root of her family tree. She helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she served as a Mom and Grandma to those who needed one. She poured care into every gathering, offered a warm meal to every visitor, and shared an extra plate to take home. She enjoyed family trips to casinos, cooking, baking, and spending time with loved ones. The times spent caring for Annette in her final days was a privilege for those who loved her most. Her memory will continue to guide and bless her family as they carry her love and recipes forward. Forever and always, Annette Evan was loved by all.
