Marie Annette Odile Lapeyre Huggins, lovingly known to all as Netsie and Mimi to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was born on May 3, 1937, in Houma, Louisiana. She entered eternal life peacefully on February 10, 2026, surrounded by her family, faith, and a lifetime of beautiful memories.
Netsie graduated from Incarnate Word College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. That same year, on August 2, 1958, she married the love of her life, Woodson Anthony “Woody” Huggins. Their sixty-two years of marriage were filled with devotion, laughter, faith, and a deep love of family that became the foundation of everything she cherished.
Her senior yearbook once described her as a queen in her own right. Those words remained true throughout her entire life. She carried herself with grace, warmth, humor, and a quiet strength that blessed everyone who knew her. As a young woman she was active in the Cecilian Choristers, Kappa Lambda Kappa, and the Sodality of Our Lady. Netsie treasured her 60 years with the Sacred Heart Family Guild, a devoted community built on their Catholic faith, service, and enduring friendship. Her faith was always at the center of who she was.
Mimi will be forever remembered by her beloved family. She is survived by her brother Harold Lapeyre and her sister Alice Louise Vales. She leaves behind her devoted children Emile and Laura Huggins, Thomas and Karen Huggins, Chris and Susan Huggins, Harold and Melissa Huggins, and her daughter Alice and Rick Linahan. Her grandchildren Krista Sprague, Luke and Jake Huggins, Natalie and Logan Brown, Marshall Huggins, Zachary and Sarah Huggins, Emily and Brett Soderdahl, Eric, Elise and Emile Huggins, and Danny David and Kori Linahan, Annette, and Cody Linahan were the lights of her life. She was also blessed with great grandchildren Kingston and Kayman Sprague, Hartley and Ford Brown, and Grace and Nora Soderdahl, who brought her immeasurable joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emile and Louise Lapeyre; her beloved husband, Woody; and her precious son, Woodson A. Huggins Jr.; brothers, JM Lapeyre, Bubba Lapeyre, Louis Lapeyre, Jean Lapeyre, and Pierre Lapeyre.
Netsie and Woody built a life together in Hollywood Park where they raised their five children in a home full of faith, noise, laughter, and love. Their home was a place where front doors stayed unlocked, games of hide and seek were endless, and summers meant trips to Grand Isle, LA with boiled shrimp, French bread, and the sound of the Gulf breeze on screened porches. She managed carpools, sports practices, grocery shopping with two carts, and the beautiful chaos of family life, she did it all with patience, creativity, and a sense of humor that kept everyone going.
She loved staying active and was happiest on the tennis courts where her quick feet and competitive and joyful spirit made her a wonderful partner and friend. That same energy carried into her kitchen, where her love of cooking brought family and friends together year after year. Her Thanksgiving dressing and shrimp gumbo were legendary, and her Louisiana roots were truly enjoyed by many in Texas.
Faith was always Netsie’s guiding light. She was an integral part of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and served in countless ministries over the years. She took communion to the sick, worked with adult and teen ACTS retreats, and poured her heart into the Liturgy Team where they created beautiful environments in the church for every season. She lived her faith quietly and faithfully, touching lives in ways she never fully knew.
In her later years, Netsie lived at Brookdale Memory Care in Hollywood Park, where she continued to touch hearts. The caregivers treated her like family, loving her tenderly and caring for her with dignity and compassion. In her final days they gave her comfort and peace, and they gave us the priceless gift of time to sit by her side, to cry and laugh, to look through old photographs and letters, and to simply be with her. We will always be grateful for the kindness they showed to our sweet Mom.
Netsie was many things. A devoted wife. A loving mother. A proud grandmother and great grandmother. A woman of deep faith. The Heart of her family. Most of all, she was a gentle soul who taught us what unconditional love looks like.
