Annette G. Shifflett was born on September 14, 1918 in Rochester, New York to parents Marietta and Guido Gianfranceschi. She entered into rest on August 13, 2018. She graduated from Seton Hills University with a Masters in foreign language, and she moved to Washington D.C. to pursue a career with the government.
She prided herself on working in Kermit Roosevelt’s cabinet (grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt) at the Central Intelligence Agency. She traveled the world, and she was involved with the extraction of the Shah of Iran during a government coup and later followed Roosevelt to Gulf Oil Company. She served as his personal assistant, and helped him edit his book “A Sentimental Safari” an account of a safari made by his famous grandfather.
In 1961, she met the love of her life Milton Shifflett in Washington D. C., and they married at Andrews Air Force Base. They moved to Paris, France on an overseas assignment, and she loved living the adventure.
Of all of her adventures, her greatest was as a devoted wife and loving mother to Dellen, Michael, and Valerie. She loved her family and always supported their dreams. She believed in experiencing all that life has to offer and encouraged others to do the same. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed traveling the world with her family and friends.
Annette loved to entertain, never knew a stranger, and her smile always lit up a room. Her faith in Jesus was important to her and you could often find her praying to St. Anthony when someone lost something. She told others to always look up, aim high and enjoy life. She wanted everyone to know what a great life she had- a full 99 years!
She will be missed dearly. Annette is survived by her husband, Milton Shifflett, retired Lieutenant Colonel of San Antonio, Texas.
