Annie “Ann” Laurie Landis Chisenhall, age 94, passed away February 5, 2014. She was born October 10, 1919 in Chapel Hill, Tennessee to Bryant Landis and Dean Elizabeth McLain Landis. Ann met the love of her life while working at the Dickie Williamson Clothing Factory in Fort Worth, Texas in 1939. A young, handsome roller skating messenger boy entered the room and with one look she announced to her friend, “I am going to marry him.” The friend said, “No, you are not, I am.” But we learned the rest of the story when Ann married Gordon Fletcher Chisenhall on March 14, 1941. She was married to Gordon Sr. for 58 years until his death on March 2, 1999.
As the wife of a U.S. Air Force Soldier, Ann found great effort due in maintaining the family while Gordon was traveling for assignments. Often the family had to move from one city, state or country to another and sometimes a different continent. In early 1953, after some months of separation from Gordon Sr., Ann began the drive from Texas in their 1952 Studebaker, with her two small sons, to the Port of New York to meet and then sail on the S.S. America Ocean Liner across the Atlantic ending in Bremerhaven, Germany. There she met her husband where the Chisenhall family would continue on to their destination of Neu Isenberg, Germany. When the young family disembarked from the ship they watched their Studebaker hardtop as it was unloaded and presented as their transportation to their new home. Once their journey was complete, Ann set up house in a foreign, and not necessarily welcoming, land just a few years after World War II. She then enrolled the kids in school as she continued to live the life of an American Military Family. Ann proudly embraced this lifestyle, never hesitant to share her stories and always curious to find others who had similar experiences.
As a devoted wife, mother of two, grandmother of seven, and great grandmother of ten, Ann always found many exciting outings and activities in which to immerse the imaginations of the children, and by that she will always be remembered and loved.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, Sr., five siblings Ewing, Earl, Alvis, Sue, and Bryant, Jr. and is survived by her sons Gordon Fletcher Chisenhall, Jr. and wife Sylvia, Jack Landis Chisenhall, Sr. and wife Tammy, grandchildren Shane Chisenhall(Patti), Chad Chisenhall(Jennifer), Christine Ashmore(Andrew), Mary Cherry(Jason), John Chisenhall(Camila), Jack Landis Chisenhall, Jr., Allison Chisenhall, great grandchildren Grant, Noah, Brittany, Caitlyn, Hailey, Jack, Drew, Michelle, Walker, and Parker. The family wishes to thank Kathy and Maribel.
