Annie Mae Hager

"Anne" was born on December 20, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to Alfred Collins Montgomery and Helen Mae Gissi Montgomery. She was the fourth of six children and the last to survive of her parents and siblings, Rex Franklin Montgomery (Jean), Mary Helen Montgomery Covin (Bud), George Ray Montgomery, Carolyn Rose Montgomery Guthrie (Gus) and Virginia Lee Montgomery. She married Howard Ross Hager in 1953 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his death in May 2018.

Anne is survived by her three children: Karen Gayle Hager Evans (Kim), of Comfort, Texas, Kathleen Ann Hager Kilgore (Stan), of Comfort, Texas, and Ross Stephen Hager, of Schertz, Texas. She greatly loved and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren: Allison Evans, Colby Evans, Emily Evans, William Kilgore (Khrystyne), Kristen Kilgore, Logan Hager, Carson Hager, and great-grandchild Annabeth Evans DeWoody. Her family included many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She attended Alamo Heights schools graduating from Alamo Heights High School in 1953. She obtained her BBA in Management from Southwest Texas State University. In 1985, she was honored at the Anne Hager Appreciation Day recognizing her years of service, and many contributions to USAA. Anne enjoyed a 29-year career in management at USAA retiring in 1992. For many years, her weekends were busy running her antique shop - "Red Barn Antiques" - in Comfort, Texas.

Anne loved to host dinners for family, friends, and Sunday School classes. Everyone was welcome and food was plentiful. The best functions started with prayer and ended with a competitive game of "42." Family events were always memorialized by chocolate dessert and a group photo. She loved music, flower gardening, bird watching, and battling squirrels at the feeder.

Anyone who knew Anne - and many who didn't - landed on her prayer list. She was a faithful Christian who encouraged her family and friends to pray often and pray specific. Anne grew up in Alamo Heights Baptist Church, built by her father, and where she met her husband and made lifelong friends. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Kerrville, Texas.

The family is grateful for the care provided by Dr. Rebecca Barrington and Peterson Hospice.

A visitation will begin on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 2:00pm, at Sunset Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00pm and interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
