Annie Piña-Tapia, a native San Antonian, entered into the loving arms of our Lord on September 8, 2021 at the age of 69 years. She was born on November 18, 1951 to parents, Janie P. and Antonio S. Hernandez.
Annie graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. She worked in administration, registering patients at Methodist Hospital and retired from there in 2014 after 20+ years. Annie enjoyed the outdoors: flower gardening, camping, fishing, bird watching and hiking. She had a large collection of salt & pepper shakers and different teapots.
She was close to her church family and an active member of serving the community. She started the ACTS ministry at St. James Catholic Church and was also a member of the St. James Guadalupanas Society. Annie also loved to travel, having the opportunity of visiting Canada, Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Washington, St. Thomas, taking cruises to Mexico, but her favorite were trips to Las Vegas. Annie enjoyed music, loved to dance and was the life of the party.
Annie was also a wonderful host and enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. Her popular recipes were tamales, Spanish beans and rice, carne con chile, caldos, salsas and many other homemade dishes. She often cooked anything her family requested, never disappointing the family of her wonderful cooking skills. Annie was devoted to her family and organized gatherings for birthdays, holidays, fiesta events, bar-b-q’s, tamaleras, Loteria or simply for quality family time. Annie enjoyed meeting family and friends out on lunch dates or catching up while sipping a cup of coffee.
Besides being a wonderful cook, she was a gifted gardener. She was specifically proud of her bougainvillea vines, hibiscus flowers and roses in her garden.
She will be reunited in heaven with her parents, Janie P and Antonio S. Hernandez Sr. and will always be remembered by her loving husband, George Tapia; children, Patricia Del Valle (Joab), Guillermo Piña Jr. (Elaine Torres), and James Piña (Ruth); brother Antonio P. Hernandez Jr. (Peggy); grandchildren, Alexis (Jeremy), Gabriella (Jason), Andrea (Anthony), Guillermo, Amanda (Nathan), Kaitlyn, and Vivian; great-grandchildren, Zane, Jeremiahs, Milena, Massimiliano, Avangeline, Arabelle, Luke and two baby boys on the way; niece, Amanda Gonzales, and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuaries.
