Antonio Tony G. Salinas, age 81, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2005 in San Antonio, TX. He was born May 26, 1924 in Kingsville, TX and always knew this as his hometown.
Tony left home at 18 years old to serve his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II in the Pacific. He served as a Tech/Sgt. with the 43rd Service Squadron. In his later years he always said that this experience was what shaped his mind and spirit for the rest of his life.
Tony realized early in life that family was to be the most important thing to him.
He spent his entire professional life as a sheet metal journeyman mechanic and was a life long member of the Sheet Metal Workers of America Union Local 67 in San Antonio. He chose this career as a young man attending Texas A & I while studying engineering after returning from the war. He was recognized as a master craftsman in his field and mentored many young apprentices in the field he so loved. Even after retirement, he would receive calls from people for advice on jobs and layouts.
In all his accomplishments, he held dearest the formal education he provided to his family. As he leaves us physically, he lives on in the lives and dreams of his children. He often said these were his only true assets.
His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Andrea G. Salinas; and his family, Rey G. Salinas, son and his wife, Sandra, Arnold A. Salinas, son and his wife, Lisa, Tony G. Salinas, son and his wife, Griet; Maris Salinas Carrubba, daughter, and her husband Frank, Theresa Salinas McLachland, daughter and her husband, Mark, Frank G. Salinas, son, and wife, Tammy; his 14 grandchildren include: Troy A. Salinas, Michael R. Salinas, Melissa R. Salinas, Matthew A. Salinas, Dominic A. Salinas, Alexandra S. Salinas, Phillip A. Salinas, Emily C. Carrubba, Frankie P. Carruba, Andrea C. McLachlan, Markie A. McLachlan, Hannah G. Salinas, Noah F. Salinas and Joshua A. Salinas. Recently he was able to hold his great grandson, Colin Troy Salinas. He will live on in all his family and rest now that his job is done.
