Apolinar Martinez Luis

age of 82.

Mr. Luis traveled to the US looking for the American dream like everyone who wasn’t born in the US. Working at all of the produce warehouses in the west side of town, learning how to operate forklifts. Working hard everyday to provide for his one and only wife he would lay his eyes on. His one and only true love was Mary E. Rodriguez, they built a long life together and found a little house to call home in the westside. He and his love built a little family having three daughters in 1982, 1990, 1991. Mr. Luis had a lot of talents to make money and to hustle and work hard for it. From taking photos of couples, groups of friends and selling them to them at our beautiful market square during fiesta and Poteet strawberry festival for many years. Another job was working landscaping with a company so he became an expert as a landscaper and loved working in his manicured yard. He found great delight in growing his beautiful rose garden and nurtured many different flowers and plants in which his beloved enjoyed. One of the greatest achievements was becoming a US citizen in the year 2004 in Austin, TX.

So with a crazy idea that came from one of his daughters who just wanted to sell snow cones in front of the house so she could make some money for the summer. Mr. Luis ended up creating a raspa truck out of his pickup truck. With the help from one of his closest friends they created a house looking like a snowcone truck behind the truck. Selling all kinds of goodies, driving up and down each street in the neighborhood on the west side of town. Traveling to different playgrounds, soccer games, baseball games, football games. He and his wife ran the business for about 4-5 years and finally retired. He had a deep appreciation for nature, tending the garden, enjoyed being around his youngest grandbabies and watching soccer.

Apolinar is now joining his parents in heaven, Antonio Luis and Luisa Martinez Luis and his loving wife, Mary Ester Rodriguez.

He is survived by his children, Maria Luisa Martinez, Blanca Luis (Michael Grubbs) and Elizabeth Luis (Sergio Chavez), Eulalia Rodriguez, San Juanita Garza; grandchildren, Amy, Jim, Kevin, Erica, Edward, Eric, Max, Gary, Marie, Dante Smith and Ace Grubbs; great grandchildren; Lillie, Emily, Greyson, Jayden, little Jim, Westin, Riley, Celeste, Chris, Sebastian, Mercedes, Destiny, Anthony, Max JR, Marcelo, Mateo.

The Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026 at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino, 226 Cupples, Rd., San Antonio,TX 78237 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
