After college April taught at Saint Mary's Hall until her retirement, from 1970 to 2006. Not only was she one of the most learned people of the classics and modern, but she also had the gift of imparting that knowledge to her students in a manner that interested and excited them. Her students came to her for guidance in things other than classwork. Most mornings, before daybreak, one would find her in her office working with a student on a paper or helping her/him navigate the treacherous life of the adolescent.
April was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, married, and now will be laid to rest.
