

He was born on June 8, 1912 on the family farm in Guadalupe County, Texas, where he worked until joining the US Army in 1942. During World War II he served in the Infantry in the Asia Pacific Theatre.
After the war, he married Loraine Neuse and began work at Kelly AFB rising to the position of Inventory Management Specialist in a career that spanned 40+ years including military service.
When not spending time with his family or tending to his beloved yard and pecan trees, he was active in Bethany Congregational Church, where he served in various leadership positions, the Disabled American Veterans serving As Commander and Hospital Chairman of the Joseph Early DAV Chapter 14, Masonic Lodge in which he achieved the level of a 50-year Mason, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Shriners and the American Legion.
In all, he worked tirelessly to serve others in need.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Loraine Wetz; children, Phillip A. Wetz and wife, Linda, Andrew C. Wetz and wife, Amelia, Sharon L. Schultz and husband, Steven; as well as three grandchildren who loved their "Opie": Rachel Wetz, Allison Wetz and Andrea Wetz.
