He was born in Jourdanton, Texas January 30, 1915 and worked until he was 70 as a department store executive.
He was a lifelong student and teacher of the Bible and had committed to memory large portions of Hebrew and Christian scripture.
Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his wife Edna after 52 years of marriage and by his second wife Doris after 9 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife Erlene Watkins of Hollywood Park, sons, Dr. David W. Watkins Ruth, and the Rev. Charles Watkins Jane, a daughter Judith Dee Poffenbarger Gary, and 6 grandchildren.
Graveside services at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northside Church of Christ Building Fund, 16318 San Pedro, San Antonio, TX 78232.
The family acknowledges with gratitude the dedicated care of Pipestone Place Assisted Living and Vitas Hospice.
