Born on December 23, 1940, to Jesus and Genevieve Loera, Art's life was a testament to his enduring spirit and the love he shared with those around him.
Art's journey began in San Antonio, Texas where he graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1959. His commitment to service was evident early on as he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964. After his military service, Art dedicated many years to the Alamo Trucking Service, retiring in 2000 after a successful career.
Art's passion for community was reflected in his deep involvement with the Freemason Fraternity for 48 years. He was a respected Past Master of Texas Masonic Lodge No. 8, serving from 2001 to 2002, and again as Past Master of Blue Bonnet Lodge No. 1219 in 2011 to 2012. His dedication earned him the prestigious Golden Trowel Award in 2000. Art was also a proud member of the Alzafar Shrine, contributing to various units including the Patrol, Golf, and Hospital Corps. His talents as a photographer were recognized as he served as the Temple Photographer for the Alzafar Shrine since 2010, the Grand Photographer for the Grand Lodge of Texas in 2020, and as an Imperial Photographer for various Imperial Potentates at Shriners International. In 2023, Art's exceptional service was honored with the Imperial Potentates' Shriners International Medallion.
Art's love for photography was more than just a hobby; it was a way of life. His camera was his constant companion, capturing moments of joy and significance. In his younger days, Art was known as Speedy Gonzales on the softball field, a nickname that captured his zest for life and athleticism. He also found solace in the great outdoors, whether he was playing golf, deer hunting, or fishing.
Above all, Art cherished time with his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Carmen Loera, for 52 years. Together, they raised two daughters, Cynthia Triggs (Jason Triggs) and Sandra Salas, who brought him immense pride. Art's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Alyssa Loera, Julia Silva, Jacob Salas, Riley Triggs, Kevin Triggs, and Colin Triggs. Art is also survived by his siblings, Rosa Garcia and David Loera, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Genevieve Loera, and his son, Arturo Loera, Jr.
To Art, no one was a stranger; everyone was a potential friend. His gentle demeanor and the ease with which he could bring a smile to anyone's face were truly remarkable. It seemed as though he knew everyone, and indeed, everyone seemed to know him.
Art's impact on the world was as profound as it was heartfelt. His presence could light up a room, and his conversations were always filled with warmth and sincerity. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
