He was a veteran of the European Theater of Operation during WWII. He served with the 764th Tank Battalion and was decorated for injuries sustained in battle.
Atanacio was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria Luna. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Herminia V. Luna; daughter, Irma Lopez and husband, LaLo; sister, Angelina Otero; step-children, Elizabeth Knight, Daniel Perez and wife, Regina and Hiram Perez and wife, Thavin; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
