On January 25, 1933, Audrey was born to William E. and Evelyn E. Green in the hamlet of Kings Park, Long Island, New York. She married her High School Sweetheart, John B. Girvan, in 1956. Soon after, John joined the U.S. Army and Audrey happily lived the life of an Army spouse with pride and purpose. Together they raised four children, Carol Ann (Girvan) Townsend, Deborah L. (Girvan) Williams, John W. Girvan, and Gregg A. Girvan. Audrey dedicated herself to her husband and children, always ensuring everyone flourished in their ever-changing lives and frequent moves across the United States and Germany throughout John’s 30-year military career. Audrey cherished her family, including her wonderful sons-in-law Richard K. Townsend and Terry A. Williams, and an amazing daughter-in-law Tracy (Grassi) Girvan. She deeply loved and was so proud of her grandchildren and their spouses, Corey Townsend and wife Amanda, Jordon Williams, Elizabeth (Girvan) Dunn and husband Jeff, Megan Girvan Smith and husband Cullen, Taylor Townsend and wife Esther, Austin Williams, Andrew Townsend and wife Caitlin, and Brian Girvan, as well as nine great-grandchildren.
Audrey was petite in stature but lived life like a giant. She created delicious gourmet meals that chefs would envy! She loved to entertain guests – even the eclectic bunch her kids brought home during their college years. Her table settings were a work of art and let those around her know they were important enough for the extra effort. Audrey loved to travel and share her adventures with friends and family. Audrey kept lifelong bonds with the people she loved and stayed connected (later in life) through social media. She recently mustered enough strength to travel to Tennessee and her beloved hometown of Kings Park. Saying farewell in person and giving many of her adoring family a hug and kiss was something she just had to do. It was a fond farewell that was good for her heart and soul.
Audrey was at peace throughout her illness, having her family watching over her as she had done when they were younger. She found joy in hearing the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, seeing them filled with promise. Knowing her job was done, Audrey left this world to rejoin the love of her life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Audrey will be sorely missed but not soon forgotten.
Audrey will be buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery alongside her husband, U.S. Army Colonial (Ret.) John B Girvan (1933-2013). Funeral Services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Committal on September 10th, 2021 Committal Shelter #1 at 0900, followed by a reception at the Fort Sam Houston Golf Clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Camp Hope (https://ptsdusa.org/give-help/) or the United Services Organization (USO) (Donate to the USO · United Service Organizations).
