Audrey Frances Quinn passed away peacefully at home in San Antonio, Texas on September 7, 2020, surrounded by her daughters. A breast cancer survivor of more than a decade, Audrey battled multiple cancers in the last couple of years of her life that spread throughout her body and eventually took her life. She was 83 years old.
Audrey was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. There she met fellow Staten Island native and love of her life, William M. Quinn, and together they were the proud owners of an Italian restaurant in Granville, New York. They had two children: their daughter, Elizabeth, followed five years later by their daughter, Susan. When the girls were still very young, the family moved to Texas to be closer to Audrey’s brother and mother. Initially Audrey was a keypunch operator at a local hospital, but eventually she decided to go into the same line of work as Bill, in security. For many years the two of them worked for the same company, but at different locations and separate shifts. Bill worked nights and Audrey worked during the day at the airport so she could be home with the girls in the evenings. She ended up spending half of her life in New York, and half in the hill country of San Antonio, Texas, but she never lost her signature New York accent.
After Bill passed away in 2006, Audrey took up aerobics at the local activities center. She not only found a group of friends there--with whom she could play Bunco, enjoy day trips, and socialize at annual events such as fashion shows, Halloween parties, and jubilees--but also gained physical fitness that supported her through multiple surgeries and other treatments in the last couple of years of her life. Audrey was spunky and valued the independence her trusty Jeep afforded her to run errands with her beloved beagle, Molly, who knew her as “Nannie.” She loved crochet and crossword puzzles; “Gilmore Girls,” the Hallmark Channel, and old movies; Doris Day; community ballet and theatre; and the color pink.
More than anything else, Audrey loved to travel! As young marrieds in New York, she and Bill had a summer home in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. Once they moved to Texas, she and her family took fishing trips to the coast. Audrey had a particularly memorable trip with her daughters just last year. She attended a Veteran’s Day commemoration in Middletown, New York, where her nephew, Robert, was an honorary speaker, and afterwards had pizza and played games with him and his family. Then she flew to Disneyworld, where--in addition to visiting every country represented at Epcot—she was presented a special set of mouse ears because it was her first visit to the Magic Kingdom!
Audrey was met on the other side with open arms by: her sweetheart of 44 years, Bill; her parents, Raymond A. Morrison, Sr. and Susan Elizabeth “Betty” Morrison; her brother, Raymond Morrison; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Kurg. She will be missed every day by her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Quinn and Susan Elizabeth Quinn, who were not only her caregivers and companions, but also her fiercest advocates and closest friends. Audrey is also survived by: her brother-in-law, Robert E. Kurg; her nephew and his family, Robert W. and Susan Lindsey Kurg and their children, Nathaniel, Andrew, and Nicholas; her niece, Linda Kurg; and her great niece, Giana Kurg.
Audrey’s daughters, Elizabeth and Susan, would like to thank all of the medical providers who have given their mother such excellent care over many years, including her longtime primary care physician, Dr. Bernice Gonzalez; her oncologist, Dr. Nathan Shumway; and her cardiologist, Dr. William Wu. They are also grateful to the Bulverde Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their service to the family over the past several years. There are so many others, as well: please accept their heartfelt appreciation for your blessings, love, and prayers.
It was Audrey’s wish to be cremated, and due to the current pandemic, no services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bulverde Spring Branch Activity Center in Bulverde, Texas, where Audrey spent so many happy hours in the latter years of her life. Once her family and friends can safely gather, a future celebration of her life will be organized in her honor, and details about this event will be posted on Facebook and through this website. Her daughters feel Audrey will be remembered best as each of us extends gratitude, kindness, and love to others while they are still with us, recognizing that life is precious and fleeting.
