Aurora was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, the daughter of Tomas and Herlinda Huerta. She carried that El Paso heart with her always, but it was in San Antonio and the Austin area that she built a life full of love, laughter, and family for her grandchildren.
If you knew Aurora, you knew her children and grandchildren came first, always (mostly her grandchildren). She loved fiercely and without condition, the kind of love that made every grandchild feel like the favorite, which was a constant debate, even among her own children. She showed up for birthdays, graduations, for milestones, for anything that meant being together.
She was also, without question, the most dedicated movie buff. Ask anyone who knew her, there may not have been a single movie that escaped her. A trip to the theater for Aurora was practically a tradition. If she wasn’t watching a movie, there was a good chance she was rewatching episodes of Friends.
Aurora is survived by her three children, Melissa Ramirez (Robert), George Huerta (Erika), and Robert Castañeda (Nayra); her grandchildren, Robert J. Ramirez, Ryan Ramirez, Andrew Huerta, Aleena Huerta, Alex Huerta, Gavin Silva, Rebecca Silva, Eduardo Tejeda, Mileva Castañeda, and Emiliano Castañeda; and her great-grandchildren, Eliana Huerta and Mila Huerta.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Christina Silva, her parents, Tomas and Herlinda Huerta, and her siblings: Marta Samaniego, Yolanda Castañeda, Elvira Ortega, and Tomas Huerta Jr.
Aurora’s love and laughter brought a smile to all who knew her. She will be missed beyond words and remembered with all the joy she gave so freely. Our family gained an extraordinary angel who will continue to watch over us and love us all from above.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232, on July 3, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a memorial service starting at 2:00 p.m.
