Awilda “Willie" Bruno
September 6, 1952 - October 23, 2026
Awilda “Willie" Bruno, age 74, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on October 23, 2026. She was born at Balboa Hospital on Fort William D. Davis Army Base in Panama on September 6, 1952, to Jose and Carmen Rosa Bruno. She will be remembered for her faith, courage, compassion, and unwavering love for her family.
Willie was a proud honor graduate of Cole High School, where she graduated as co-valedictorian. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso. She began her nursing career in San Antonio, where she had the opportunity to care for others. Although her time in nursing was relatively brief, her desire to serve continued as she embarked on a second career with the San Antonio Police Department.
Throughout her life, Willie faced numerous medical challenges with remarkable bravery and determination. She endured many difficult moments, yet she refused to allow her illnesses to define her. Her strength, perseverance, and resilience were a testament to the courage that lived within her.
Above all, Willie was a devoted Christian whose faith was an important part of her life. In her younger years, she faithfully attended Bible study at her church and carried her love for the Lord throughout her journey. Her faith provided strength during difficult times and was a meaningful part of the woman she was.
Willie had a special gift for making people feel welcome and loved. She never met a stranger, and her warm heart and friendly spirit touched countless lives. She loved every member of her family deeply and always did whatever she could to help those she loved. Her family was her greatest treasure, and the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of their lives.
Some of Willie's happiest moments were spent FaceTiming with family and friends, enjoying visits with loved ones, Reading, Disney, Tinker Bell, she LOVED Rock Hudson and watching movies, specifically Harry Potter, and singing. These simple pleasures brought her joy and allowed her to stay connected to the people who meant the most to her. Her favorite color was purple, and she held a special fondness for horses, dogs and monkeys–little things that brought a smile to her face and reflected the unique personality her loved ones will always remember.
Willie leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, strength, kindness, and love. Though her family and friends mourn her passing, they can find comfort in the countless memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love that will forever connect them to her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
