

He was born in Edinburg, Texas to Encarnacion Guzman and Evangelina (Guajardo) Guzman, second of six children. He graduated from Donna High School in 1953. Baldemar joined the U.S. Army in 1953, and while stationed in Europe, discovered a talent for engineering. He attended Pan American College in Edinburg before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, the first college graduate in his family. He initially worked for the Texas Highway Department for 12 years and then established the engineering firm Guzman and Associates, Inc. in April 1973 in Harlingen, Texas. He was a successful businessman well known in Harlingen and surrounding areas. He retired in March 1995. He was an active member of the Lion’s Club Civic Organization and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Baldemar married Lucia Obregon in 1958 in San Luis Potosi, S.L.P., Mexico. He affectionately called her “Lucy” and she responded with “Mr. Guzy.” They were true partners, even working together, with her as his secretary at Guzman and Associates, Inc.
Baldemar was a devoted and loving father to his children who will dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. He was looked to for advice and support, always knowing what to do and always there whenever any of his children or other family members needed him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Encarnacion and Evangelina Guzman; sister, Consuelo Zamora; and brother, Alberto Guzman. He is survived by siblings Elva (Gonzalez), Enrique Guzman, and Linda (Ghaffari). He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucia O. Guzman; son, Ricardo Guzman; daughter, Raquel (Hernandez); daughter, Delia (Guzman-Bass); daughter, Maria (Starboard); and daughter, Nora Aida (Glenn); and his grandchildren.
A visitation and rosary for Baldemar will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78258. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
