

Barbara Ann Schmitz Noyes Casagrande, devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on February 1, 2014. Barbara courageously fought an extended battle with Lewy Body Dementia and in her final years resided at Arden Courts of San Antonio, an Assisted Living Community.
Barbara was born in Cleveland Ohio on April 25, 1946. After attending school, Barbara worked in various office positions. Barbara found her calling as a Counselor and teacher at Alpha Home in San Antonio. Barbara became an accomplished Chemical Dependency and Alcoholism Counselor and built her own successful counseling practice, Serenity Services, where she provided education and training in combating these conditions. Her three hour video “Trapped Inside” achieved world-wide recognition and is credited with assisting thousands of people who suffer from Agoraphobia, Anxiety and Panic Attacks.
Barbara was the loving daughter of Anthony and Marie Schmitz of Phoenix, AZ both of whom predeceased her and she is survived by six brothers and sisters Jeanne Marie Wolf, Marie Schuyler, and Peter Schmitz of Phoenix AZ, Anthony Schmitz of Akron OH, Charles Schmitz of Hendersonville TN, and Catherine Schmitz Adkinson of Houston TX.
Barbara married Dr. Daniel J. Casagrande at the Unity Church, Houston, TX and was a very loving, devoted, caring, compassionate wife. Barbara was very proud and loving of her blended family of five children. Her three biological children and their spouses include: Christine Anne Noyes Eckhardt, wife of Gary Eckhardt in San Antonio; Anthony and Tammy Noyes of Phoenix AZ; and Joseph and Lynn Noyes of Phoenix AZ. Barbara’s two extended family sons and their spouses include: Daniel and Amy Casagrande Jr. of Chattanooga TN, and Robert and Cyndie Casagrande, of Phoenix AZ. Barbara just adored her six grandchildren: Ryan Noyes of San Antonio, Joseph Noyes of Phoenix AZ, Zachary Noyes of Phoenix AZ, Zane Eckhardt of San Antonio, and Grace and Daniel Casagrande III of Chattanooga.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Arden Courts, Dr. Robert Goff, Dr. Kelly Cowan and Heartland Hospice for their dedication to excellence in assisting Barbara during her illness. Special recognition and thanks is given to Barbara’s Caregivers especially her primary caregiver Ms. Mary Edwards (whose love, care, dedication and technical excellence extended Barbara’s life), and Mary’s team of Desiree Fuentes, Rosalinda Galvan, and Alma Elizalde.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home located at 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 5:30 - 6:30 with a reception to follow from 6:30-7:30.
