

Barbara Jean Chernosky, known to friends and family as Barb, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on January 18, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. Barb's gentle departure from this world was a reflection of the graceful life she led, one filled with love, friendship, and a spirited zest for life.
Barb was preceded in death by her father Jack Plunk and her mother Phyllis O'Hanlon and stepfather Jack O'Hanlon. She is survived by her husband of 30 years John Chernosky; her brother Carroll Plunk and his wife Zelphia Plunk; her sister Darlene Strickland; her sister Rebecca Hook and her husband Terry Hook; her sister Jacqueline Robbins and her husband Mason Robbins; her sister Phyllis Schnerer; her brother John O'Hanlon; her son James Staugler and his wife Trisha Staugler; her son Michael Dolan; her daughter Melissa Chapman; her step-son John Chernosky III; 9 grandkids; and 7 great grandkids.
The words loving, friendly, feisty, and spirited paint a true portrait of Barb. Her warmth and generosity were the hallmarks of her character. Barb's ability to make friends was unparalleled, and those friendships were cherished and enduring. Although Barb has left this earthly realm, her spirit remains a guiding light for all who knew her.
She adored and loved Elvis Presley, and his music and legacy as could be seen in her decor. She also loved going fishing when she was able to.
Barb's life story is one of joy and laughter, of quiet moments and grand adventures. She lived her life with an open heart, embracing each day with a gratitude that was as profound as it was simple. Her presence was a gift, and though she has departed, the essence of who she was will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As the sun sets on Barb's earthly journey, we are reminded of the impact one life can have on so many. Barb's memory will be treasured in the stories that will continue to be told and in the silent spaces where her influence is felt but not seen. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly, guiding us through the days ahead with love and grace.
Barbara Jean Chernosky's life was a beautiful reflection of the best of us, and her legacy will resonate for generations to come. She will be profoundly missed yet forever remembered.
Services for Barb's celebration of life will be held at Chapel Hill Methodist Church on Jan 27 at 11:00 am (4114 SW Loop 410); and a get together at VFW post 8397 later that day to continue the life celebration (2541 W Southcross Blvd). Interment will be at Fort Sam at 2:15 pm on Jan 28.
