

Barbara Virginia Seale Condos was born in Kenedy, Texas to her parents, Bess Ainsworth Seale and John Edgar Seale. Barbara passed away on her 97th birthday on February 24, 2022 at her home of 60+ years in Terrell Hills.
Barbara graduated from Alamo Heights High School and obtained her Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Music from the University of the Incarnate Word. After graduating from Incarnate Word, Barbara studied acting and dance in New York. Upon her return to San Antonio, Barbara opened her own ballet studio and taught ballet for many years, putting on a number of dance productions with her students. She also served as President of the San Antonio Ballet Association in the 1970s.
Barbaras artistic endeavors also included theatre and painting. As a painter, Barbara used oils, watercolors, and charcoal, and she exhibited her works in various galleries and art shows. To inaugurate the opening of Barclays Bank in Chicago, the bank sponsored a one-woman exhibition for Barbara at the banks downtown banking lobby in 1974. As an actress, Barbara appeared in a number of amateur productions across San Antonio. After one of Barbaras acting performances at the Arneson River Theatre on the Riverwalk in 1955, she met her future husband, native New Yorker, George James Condos. Three months later they were married on Christmas Eve.
When Barbaras husband, George, passed away at the age of 54, she embarked on a career in real estate investments. She worked alongside her husbands longtime partner, Bill Rhame, in their business Condos & Rhame, which was active in San Antonio and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Barbara and Bill partnered with Vernon Willoughby, Don Willoughby, Steve Raub and others in the San Antonio based firm, Investment Realty Company, until she retired in 2008.
Outside of Barbaras real estate career, she continued to serve her community by championing education and the arts. During the 1980s, Barbara served on the board at University of the Incarnate Word, and she was recognized by then University President, Dr. Louis Agnese, as a distinguished alumna of the University. In 1987, Barbara was selected by her dear friend, Russell Rogers, as a trustee of the Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts where she served for 24 years. Additionally, Barbara served on the board of trustees at the McNay Art Museum during the late 1980s and 1990s. Barbara remained active with the museum for many years as a trustee emeritus serving as a volunteer on the Art Committee and the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
Barbara enjoyed annual trips to Europe (France was her favorite) with her frequent traveling companions Mary McComb and Clara Brundage. In the summer, Barbaras friend, Maggie Block, would organize an annual girls group painting trip to Aspen, and Barbara and Maggie attended many of the annual International Design Conferences held in Aspen. During the fall, Barbara would frequently travel to New York with her friends to attend Broadway theatre as well as ballet and opera performances.
Barbara was preceded in death not only by her parents and her husband but by her sister, Anne Seale Bentley, and her brother John Edgar Seale, Jr. She is survived by her only child, James Alexander Condos and his wife, Melinda, his children Elliot and Alexa Condos, and Melindas children Fletcher and George Mixon. Additionally, Barbara is survived by her niece Nancy Seale Hermann, nephew Ed Seale and his wife Regina, great niece Gwendolyn Seale and great nephew John-Phillip Seale. Her husbands cousin, Dr. George Mani, his wife Rosemary and his children, Corinne Yancy, Philip Mani, Carol Mani, Peter Mani and Nicholas Mani are also survivors as are their spouses and children.
