

Barbara Jean Elder Mabe Kay, age 88, passed away quietly February 15, 2019. She had a long and full life. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School. She married at quite a young age (16), and had 5 marvelous children, 1 boy named Jerry and 4 girls, Marilyn, Judy, Susan and Trish. She and her spouse, Norman, also raised her sister, Maureen Elder "Renee", who at the early age of 9, was orphaned. Barbara was a great cook, decorator, and exceptionally great gardener; she loved flowers. She belonged to the Day Lily Society and her back yard (her English garden) was featured on the cover of their magazine. She enjoyed reading novels and writing about her life. She adored the Catholic church. She belonged to the Altar Society at Blessed Sacrament. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Mabe Ploch, Susan Mabe Mankus, and Patricia Mabe Proffitt; and several other grandchildren; great grandchildren; and many cousins. A Rosary will be held in her honor at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East, Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 7:00 pm with visitation beginning at 6:00 pm. There will also be a Mass held for her Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Matthew's Catholic Church located at 10703 Wurzbach Rd., 78230. Following the Mass, she will be transported to Cheapside, Texas to be buried at Bellevue Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Many of her ancestors are laid to rest here. She will be buried right next to her son, Norman Gerald "Jerry" Mabe, Jr. and also her daughter Judith "Judy" Antonette Mabe Lange. We will miss her.
