Barbara Kathleen Fennessy, age 67 & Robert William Fennessy, age 67 passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 18, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212.
Barbara was a very loving, devoted, giving, selfless and caring wife, friend and mother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, art & crafts, knitting, making blankets and was not afraid to "tell it like it is" while still making you feel loved and supported. She was the kind of mother and friend you could always count on to be there for the rough spots in life. In addition to being warm and loving she was also a world class cook known for her Christmas cookies, brownies and state fare winning cheesecake. She will be greatly missed by all.
Bob "Mr. Bob" was a loving and devoted father, friend and husband. He always had a welcoming smile and went out of his way to make sure everyone had what they needed in both his personal and professional life. At work he was affectionately known as King Bob to his teammates, his fun-loving soul that inspired the team and for his love of all things Minion. His positive energy, selflessness and willingness to help anyone in need will be missed by many.
They had a partnership for life. Barbara and Bob were joined in marriage by Bob's uncle, the Reverend Robert H. Fennessy at Holy Cross Church in Rochester, New York on June 20, 1970. They had two children Jennifer (Fennessy) Holland and Christopher William Fennessy (deceased).
Their commitment would be tested when Bob's career took them to 16 cities in 45 years. It began in Syracuse, New York, then Baldwinsville, then down south to Corpus Christi, on to Kingsville, back to Corpus Christi, then to San Antonio, Victoria, San Antonio, again, then north to Minnesota, down to Dallas, then Austin, back to Dallas, east to Pensacola, and finally once more to San Antonio. No matter what city they were living in, the rules were always the same: Dinner is at 6:30 PM and anyone was welcome, as long as you would set the table but it had to be done Barbra's way. Mr. Bob would always teach the proper placement of the silverware, the fork goes on the left with the knife close to the plate on the right with the spoon beside it. Many friends and colleagues sat at that table over those 45 years. It was a warm, friendly and welcome place to be. Bob, a graduate of St. John Fisher College, was the store manager for the first Super Wegmans in Syracuse New York. He also served as a Director at H-E-B and most recently as 3rd Party Pet Services Manager at Petco in San Antonio. Bob loved his work and with his many years of experience was a great mentor as he encouraged eager employees to learn the
ropes and avoid the pitfalls. He often advised that "it didn't matter if you were the janitor or the CEO in a company, just do your best at it," He also reminded everyone how important it was to "keep their promises".
For both Barb and Bob, their dogs played an important role in their daily lives in each of those
16 homes. They were family too. The most recent treasured pets were Sully, Max, Monty and Brooklyn. A special thank you to the Petco Pet Service Team for finding their babies forever homes.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Kathleen Braun and her brother Richard. Bob was predeceased by his parents William and Rita Fennessy, his brother Lawrence, and sister-in-law Joan Fennessy (Stephen).
They are survived by their beloved daughter Jennifer (Fennessy) Holland and her husband Scott Holland, Bob's sister, Mary Taylor-James, brothers Stephen Fennessy, John and Sherry Fennessy, Nephews, William Taylor, Andrew James, Niece, Melissa Geska and Ed Geska and Great Nephew, Ethan Testa, Great Niece, Amari Taylor and Great Nephew, Kendrick Taylor.
We celebrate the love and commitment Barb and Bob shared for over 46 years. They are together now at the Rainbow Bridge. The next time you look up at the stars, know that the brightest one in the sky is Bob & Barbara.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. May They Rest In Peace - Together.
The family is most grateful for the outpouring of support from family, employers, colleagues and friends. We would especially like to acknowledge the following: Aunt Mary, Justyn Visocaro-Escobar and family, Judy Marshall, Shawn Palos, Craig Shaw Delaney, Daniel Pointrast, Erik Araiza and Tom & Shannon Turci.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Barbara & Bob's name to San Antonio Animal Care Services, 4710 State Highway 151, San Antonio, Texas 78227. Checks should be made payable to 'City of San Antonio Animal Care Services'.
