

Barbara A. Butler Kavinsky, age 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on April 27, 2026. Barbara was born on October 4, 1935, in Youngstown, OH to James H. Butler and Josephine M. Hall Butler. She was raised in Ohio, Washington, and California. She attended Kent State University and received her Medical Technologist accreditation in 1956. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts and volunteer work with military and civilian organizations for many years, and worked in a dental office for many years as well. She lived with her military family in the USA and overseas in Okinawa, Germany and Spain, and loved traveling with her husband John. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Lt. Col. John E. Kavinsky, USAF-ret; her parents; grandson Cory Hooter; brothers James H. Butler of Killeen, TX and Michael B. Butler of Chicago, IL. She is survived by her daughters Laura Kavinsky of Los Gatos, CA; Lynne and her husband Dr. J. Kavin Kelp of Austin, TX; Lisa and her husband Joseph Hooter of Boerne, TX; and Jennifer and her husband Matt Hannifin of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by “Mimi’s grandchildren” (Justin Hooter, Kendra Hooter, Maya Kelp, Dominique Vandendries and Nicolette Vandendries) and great-granddaughter Annalee Faith.
