She was born on December 31, 1942, and always claimed New Year’s Eve was a special celebration as a tribute to her. As a native of San Antonio, she was a fifth-generation Texan proud of her German heritage. She was a descendant of Carl Hilmer Guenther, founder of CH Guenther and Son, Inc, originally known as Pioneer flour Mills. She attended Alamo Heights High School, class of 1960. She was a champion swimmer for the San Antonio Aquatic Club in her youth. She attended Peabody College, Nashville, TN, University of Texas, and San Antonio College obtaining her degree in Legal Assistance. She worked for USAA as a claims adjuster and at the Law Office of Marquis Whittington as a legal assistant. She moved to Bulverde in 1977. In 1980 she married Danny Migl at St. Paul Lutheran Church where they were members. After Danny passed in 2010, she attended Tejas Cowboy Church. Babbie was always involved in many organizations: Bulverde/Spring Branch Chamber of Commerce, Bulverde/Spring Branch Republicans, Bible Studies, and other social events. In 2018 she moved to Franklin Park Senior Living where she made new friends enjoying many social activities. Her fondest entertainment was her karaoke group singing her favorite songs at happy hour. She also was talented with writing poems and songs. She was a strong supporter for her political values. She enjoyed living life to the fullest, despite her physical challenges as an inspiration to others with her perseverance, positivity, spirituality, honesty, and loving personality. She is dancing in heaven with Danny and with “all her angels” surrounding her.
Prior to Danny’s passing Babbie’s health had deteriorated. It became necessary for her to carry an oxygen bottle to assist breathing, and use a walker for mobility. When Danny passed the family became concerned with her living alone with these conditions. Babbie’s sister Mandy took it upon herself to call Babbie every morning to see if she was ok. This continued for the remainder of her life (13 yrs). Babbie always looked forward to the daily “sister chats”.
Babbie was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Danny Migl; by her parents Dr. Elmer and Barbara Coates, in laws Otto and Patsy Migl, and her brother John Coates.
She is survived by sister, Amanda Guenther Coates; sisters-in-law, Kay Coates, and Karen Cracknell (Ray); brother-in-law, Otto Migl, Jr. (Diane); nieces Rebecca Yerly (Jon Hockenoyos); Catherine Clary (Paul); nephews, Johnny Coates, Reagan Cracknell (Lauren); great nephews, Cash Coates, Jack, and Sam Hockenoyos, and Reid Cracknell; great niece, Cameron Cracknell; stepsons, Mark, and Chris Migl; caregiver and close friend, Nina Quintero.
